Djokovic had to battle to earn a 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-3 victory against Daniil Medvedev in Melbourne yesterday to book his place in the quarter-finals.
However, the Serbian will first have to assess a number of niggling problems he picked up in his recent clash.
The world No 1 kept journalists waiting into the early hours of the morning to conduct his post-match press conference.
And that was because he needed immediate attention in an attempt to nip the issues in the bud.
“First of all, thanks for staying in late, or early, for this press conference,” Djokovic gracefully said.

“I had to do post-match, all of the part of my recovery program, because I didn’t feel so great, you know, in the last 20 minutes of the match or so.
“So we’ll see tomorrow how the body reacts, but I’m confident I can recover and I can be ready for next one.
“It was not the fall. It was not particularly the fall.
“It was just, you know, a little bit of fatigue, a little bit of back. Nothing major.
“But there are a couple of things that have surfaced, so to say, you know, after a match like this.
“But as I said, you know, I’ll see how it goes tomorrow.”
Djokovic and Nishikori have met on 17 occasions with the Japanese star winning just twice.
And 31-year-old Djokovic is confident of extending his impressive record against the No 8 seed.
“I have lots of respect for him. We did play here several times,” he added. “We actually played in quarter-finals I think one year.
“Every year is different, so, you know, every match that you play against each other is different, so I expect him obviously to come out, to try something new.
“I have beaten him many times that we played against each other in last couple of years and that we played on different surfaces.
“It was a couple of very close matches. Yeah, I expect a tough one.”
