Coronation Street: Jack P Shepherd unveils hair transplant amid 'stress' ahead of NTA 2019

Jack P Shepherd, 31, decided to undergo the procedure during the Christmas break which included having more than 3,000 hairs implanted into the front of his scalp by surgeon Asim Shahmalak from Crown Clinic in Manchester.

The actor, who plays David Platt in Coronation Street, said his hair loss “escalated” in the past 12 months.

“It is such a common thing for guys to have now – like a male version of the boob job,” he said.

“I decided to have it done because my hair loss has really escalated in the last year, particularly at the front of my scalp.”

Jack continued: “I remember seeing myself on screen and thinking, ‘Oh my God, it is really falling out’.”

It comes after Jack replied to a social media user last year who criticised his appearance.

The actor explained he had lost his hair through stress after splitting from his ex-girlfriend.

The Twitter user said: “Wtf has David Platt done to his hair? Looks like roadkill stuck to his head. T**t.”

Jack replied: “Hi, my hair has started to fall out because I went through a break up with my girlfriend of 15 years last year. And was very stressed. I’m sorry Gary.”

Tonight, Jack will be hoping to beat off stiff competition from Bonnie Langford, Danny Dyer, Emma Atkins and Lucy Pargeter to win the award for best serial drama performance at the National Television Awards 2019.

Jack was at the centre of a harrowing storyline on Coronation Street as his character David was drugged and raped by his friend Josh Tucker (played by Ryan Clayton).

The National Television Awards airs tonight on ITV at 7.30pm.

Coronation Street continues tomorrow on ITV at 7.30pm.
