The 32-year-old is currently the youngest head coach in the NFL and has guided the Rams to their first appearance in a championship game for 17 years.
He hasn’t shied away from making big calls to back his players in the past, rather than taking the safe option.
In Los Angeles Divisional round game against the Dallas Cowboys, instead of kicking a field goal to increase their lead to 26-13, he made the choice to go for it on 4th-and-goal.
With seven minutes left in the fourth quarter, C.J. Anderson converted a one yard rush to give the Rams a 15 point lead, they ended up winning the game 30-22.
McVay considers himself to be one of the more aggressive play callers in the league, but he understands how a Sean Payton Saints team also like to attack.

“That’s what I respect so much about the Saints is that they’re aggressive,” McVay said.
“I have a lot of respect and admiration for coach Payton and the way that he calls a game to go win it — not being afraid of losing it.
“I’d like to think that’s something that we do at the Rams as well.
“We’re going to continue to do that going into this weekend.”
McVay want his side to be on the front foot, but admits there is a still a balance to his approach.
“So, I think we are an aggressive team by nature,” he said.
“I think that’s our mindset, that’s our mentality, but you don’t want to be reckless.
“So, there’s an element of making sure that that communication is amongst your coaches where you’re utilising those resources around you.
“But, then there’s also a feel where, man, we feel real confident in our players ability to execute.
“We’re going to play not fearing failure, but to go attack an opportunity to go win a conference championship.”
The Rams know it is going to be a difficult task being at the Mercedes-Benz Superdom in New Orleans, but the Rams are 13-3 on the road in two seasons under McVay.
“When you go into some of these environments where the crowds are great, they’ve got a huge home-field advantage,” McVay said.
“I think that’s kind of that us against everybody else mentality.
“The guys kind of embrace that.”
