Gonzalo Higuain would choose Chelsea over Tottenham for TWO reasons – Tim Sherwood

That is the opinion of Sky Sports pundit and former Tottenham midfielder and manager Tim Sherwood.

Higuain is set to join Chelsea on loan for the remainder of the season with an option of another 12 months.

Sherwood reckons Tottenham fans will be questioning why they are not trying to sign the Argentina international, especially after the injury to star man Harry Kane.

But he says the fact Higuain has played under Chelsea boss Sarri before would prove a huge factor in who he decides to join.

Higuain spent one season under Sarri at Napoli where he scored an incredible 36 goals in 35 Serie A games.

“That’s the pull isn’t it, Sarri’s the key to it all,” Sherwood said.

“He’s going to play for a manager who he played his best football under.

“There will be a lot of Tottenham fans out there going ‘Why don’t we go and get him? We just lost our striker for 11 games’.

“In their eyes they’ll say ‘We’re better than Chelsea, why didn’t he come to us? Why didn’t we push to go and get him?’.

“A couple of reasons: the manager, and the finance. [Sarri is] the biggest one, massively.

“When you’re a player, when you want to go and play for someone, you look at the club but you also look at the manager.

“That manager, does he love you? Has he had you before?

“If he does he ticks all the boxes for Sarri.

“He knows everything about Higuain and Higuain knows everything about Sarri.

“It was a perfect fit before at Napoli and now it will be perfect again.”
