Dan Walker: BBC Breakfast host exposes 'smelly' co-star following unfortunate event

Dan Walker made a cheeky remark about Louise Minchin’s tights when he revealed she spilt coffee in the BBC Breakfast studio.

The 41-year-old broadcaster claimed the 50-year-old smelt like a barista after spilling the caffeine drink.

He also dramatised the situation, by telling his 53,3000 Instagram followers the workroom had “survived” the incident.

On his social media account, he began: “Morning all. Studio has survived an early coffee spillage from @louiseminchin.

“She was undone by a double lid. Tights have seen better days and she now smells like a barista.”

The witty message received more than 1,000 likes and the journalist was inundated with comments from fans.

One person wrote: “Double lid always a disaster ready to happen… been there,” while another fan said: “Hope it wasn’t too hot Lou!”

A third commentator added: “Least it’s coffee smells and not because she’s let one rip, as your photo initially suggests.”

Sympathising with his co-star, a fourth follower said: “Poor Louise! Those cups are a pain! Especially at six in the morning!”

On Monday’s edition of BBC Breakfast, Louise accused Dan of cheating when they discussed portion control after the British Nutrition Foundation launched a practical guide.

Explaining how much meat one person should eat, Dan used his hand as a guide, as he revealed: “This is how much meat you should have: half the size of your hand apparently.”

“Yes. So plainly you can have more than me because my hand is not so large” Louise added.

Then Dan revealed how much spaghetti one person can eat per meal by making a circle with his thumb and forefinger.

“If you make a circle with your fingers like this that’s how much spaghetti you should have for one person, I believe,” Dan remarked.

Interjecting, Louise offered: “That presumably uncooked,” before she told viewers Dan had taken a picture of his meal last night.

“We’re going to be talking about this in 20 minutes time or so, but what we’ve been made to do is send in what we made last night, and Dan I think has been cheating,” she said.

They then showed a picture of Dan’s meal from the night before and Dan joked: “This is phase one.”

Louise asked: “This is your first portion, isn’t it?” To which Dan replied: “Sausage casserole, with a bit of baked apple, and that was pudding.”

“I couldn’t decide whether to go for pavlova or crumble, so I just went double-bubble,” he added.

Then Louise quizzed: “And you also had it with?” Before the father-of-three responded: “Chocolate brownie.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6am.
