Galaxy Note 9 Android 9 Pie update – There's good and bad news for Samsung fans

It seems Samsung has finally begun pushing out its Android 9 Pie update to users of the Galaxy Note 9.

This blockbuster upgrade has been in development for some time but SamMobile is now reporting that Note 9 users are starting to gain access to all the new features and extras it brings.

Samsung’s version of 9 Pie includes a swathe of features including a customisable Night Mode which adjusts the screen’s tone, brightness and contrast to offer users a more focused and comfortable viewing experience.

A new interface makes navigating bigger-screen phones, such as the Note 9, simple by effectively splitting the display in half and it also pares down the amount of information on the display, offering users a more focused and fluid experience.

Along with new features, there’s a big new look coming to the Android OS, which Samsung calls One UI, with the firm saying its design has a focus on beauty and consistency.

Samsung has rounded the corners of the app icons and focus blocks are perfect examples of this attention to detail.

Discussing One UI, Samsung said: “One UI helps you focus on what really matters to you.

“With hardware and software working together in harmony, see only what you need, using and viewing your phone with an experience that feels second nature.

“Because it’s the small details that make a big difference.

“Standardising these design elements not only enhances the UI’s aesthetic appeal but it also creates pleasing consistency with the rounded corners of Galaxy devices.”

However, although the release of 9 Pie is clearly great for Samsung users there is also some bad news.

It currently appears that the rollout is being staggered which means many Note 9 owners are still waiting for this new operating system to be delivered to their devices.

The update seems to have started in countries including the UAE and Germany but there’s no word on other areas including the UK getting any closer to 9 Pie.

That’s not the only disappointment as the software can currently only be installed on unlocked smartphones and not those attached to a monthly contract.

This is due to mobile operators needing to test the upgrade from Samsung before pushing it out to customers.

Along with the Note 9 getting Android 9 Pie, Samsung has also revealed when its other devices will get this blockbuster upgrade.

Here’s a full roadmap of when Pie will be released on specific devices.
