Google Maps is one of the American tech giant’s most popular applications.
The client comes pre-installed on Android devices and can be downloaded though the App Store on iOS.
Moreover, Google Maps is also available on desktops and provides similar functionality to its mobile counterparts.
Many fans of the software take advantage of it for directions when driving and it appears Google is determined to make using Maps in such a situation easier.
During Google I/O last year, the firm’s annual developer conference, it was discussed how the firm plans to bring its Assistant to Maps to help people spend less time looking at their devices and more time on the road.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.
Speaking about the new functionality at the tine Lilian Rincon, the director of product management at Google, said: “Sometimes the Assistant can actually be more helpful by having a lower visual profile.
“So when you’re in the car lets say you’re focused on driving, so let’s say I’m heading home from work, I have Google Maps showing the fastest route through rush-hour traffic.”
Last month the Google Assistant started rolling out for Google Maps on Android devices, and allowed users to utter commands without having to take their eyes off the road.
That meant if “okay Google, take me home” was said for instance, the Assistant would automatically show relevant directions.
When the Assistant is requested it does not dominate the display for users.
Instead, the virtual helper appears in a small bar at the bottom so directions continue to occupy the majority of screen real estate.
While driving, users can utilise the Assistant to send text messages, make calls and more.
On Android the software works with SMS, Hangouts, Messages, WhatsApp, Messenger, Viber, Telegram and other applications.
However, none of the actions will override the Google Maps application itself.
Google has emphasised the Assistant now has the ability to punctuate message automatically, meaning you do not have to worry about grammar if you are behind the wheel.
The Mountain View company stated: “The Assistant can help you navigate in Google Maps for Android and iOS.
“With just your voice, you’ll be able to share your ETA with friends and family, reply to text messages, play music and podcasts, search for places along your route, add a new stop and auto-punctuate your message.”
Although it was previously only being delivered to Android devices, the Google Maps upgrade has now arrived for all Android and iOS users.
