NFL legend makes huge claim over Nick Foles’ future amid Patriots rumours

That is the verdict of NFL Hall-of-Famer Shannon Sharpe.

Foles has been the backup through most of this season.

Despite his Super Bowl win last year, he only made six appearances this season.

Instead, Carson Wentz has been the main man for the reigning Super Bowl champions.

Folks is on a $20million contract at the Eagles, and has been the main star this year.

Speculation about the future of the Super Bowl-winner has been rife, with some even predicting that he could be taken to the New England Patriots to be backup and then take over from Tom Brady.

And Sharpe explained that the Eagles need to cut their losses with Foles.

“No, they’ve invested too much in Carson Wentz,” he said, when asked if the Eagles should keep him.

“He [Wentz] still has two years on a rookie deal, and you can’t keep Foles.

“You can’t keep a $20m backup, because he’s not going to be the starter.

“Even if you wanted to, he could pay $2m of that signing bonus he got originally and still become a free agent.”

Sharpe then appeared to dampen the rumours linking Foles with the Patriots.

“I believe Nick Foles wants to start,” he continued.

“In his heart of hearts, he must be thinking ‘I won a Super Bowl’, and he needs to get himself a new home. It can’t just be any home, though.

“He needs to find a home and go play somewhere, but I don’t believe it will be at the Philadelphia Eagles.

“The Eagles have hitched their wagon on Carson Wentz, that’s why they moved heaven and earth to move into the number two slot to select him as the second pick overall, and I don’t think they regret that decision.”
