The 56-year-old BBC Breakfast favourite revealed the weather so far in 2019 has made big news for Jersey. “In the first seven days of 2019, Jersey has only seen six minutes of sunshine… making it the dullest start to the year in 94 years,” Carol Kirkwood told her 148,000 Twitter followers. Her fans appeared surprised by the news, with one commenting: “No way!” A second chipped in joking: “I live in Jersey and this combined with my Dry January has certainly made it even duller.”
“Always foggy in Jersey,” a third added, while a fourth tweeted: “My daughter lives in Jersey. Will have to mention this to her.
“Great fact and lovely to see you on my TV this morning,” they told Carol.
Some social media users seemed uninterested in the revelation about Jersey’s weather, however, simply happy to have her back on their screens.
“Not when you are on the TV,” one quipped flirtatiously, while another added: “Best get yourself over there and smile.”

Meanwhile, Carol recently admitted she got a “shock” when she returned to work.
“What a shock to the system when my alarm went off this morning,” she tweeted, adding the hashtag: “#firstdayback.”
She was soon inundated with messages from fans welcoming her back enthusiastically, with one gushing: “Every day is a lovely day with you on our screens.”
“We’ve missed you Carol,” another said.
In today’s forecast, Carol warned off low temperatures.
“There’s more sunshine around today than there was yesterday but it is going to feel colder,” she told BBC Breakfast viewers.
Saying there could be some frost in areas, she continued: “A chillier day than yesterday, sunshine but also some cloud.”
With possible showers but spots of sunshine throughout the day, she added: “Still some large waves, still gusty winds around the West Anglia coastline so we could well see some issues with local flooding.
“The winds generally aren’t as strong as yesterday but it will still have a knock-on effect on temperatures,” the weather presenter explained.
“Temperatures are lower and, if you are exposed to that wind, it will feel pretty nippy.”
Carol began working for the BBC early in her career, joining their secretarial reserve, and has been a weather forecaster for the broadcaster since the late 1990s.
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
