A Super Blood Wolf Moon will see the Sun, Earth and Moon in a straight line for a short amount of time this January. The total lunar eclipse will be most visible for British sty watchers in the early hours of January 21. But what does the astrological event mean for you?
What does the Super Blood Wolf Moon mean for?
Total lunar eclipses are in some religions thought of as a bad omen and can trigger natural disasters.
For many, this may sound conspiratorial but the fact is there is some logic to this notion.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), earthquakes can be up to three times more likely during high tides.
The agency said: “You must stop and realise that the background probability is, in general, very low in a given place and year (fractions of a percent), so that raising this tiny probability by a factor of 3 during high tides still results in a very tiny probability.”

However, the USGS cautions the increased likelihood still means they’re very unlikely.
Lunar eclipses occur when the Full Moon passes into the shadow of the side of the Earth facing away from the Sun.
And because a lunar eclipse only takes place during a full moon, tides are higher during this time.
A study from 2016 done by Nature Geoscience found the tides that occur during full and new Moons may be connected to a slightly higher likelihood of high magnitude earthquakes around the world.
The USGS has also said there may be a connection between the lunar cycle and eruptions of Hawaiian volcanoes.
The US government agency said: “In the Hawaii example of 52 eruptions since January 1832, there have been nearly 3,900 tidal maximums, of which roughly 3,850 of them went by without causing an eruption.
“Statistically, this is about a one percent chance that any tidal maximum will affect the start of an eruption.”
NASA also admitted although there is no evidence that supports the idea that lunar eclipses have a physical effect on people, eclipses can produce “profound psychological effects” that can lead to physical effects because of the beliefs people have and the actions they take because of those beliefs.
While science finds no physical links to lunar eclipses, different beliefs about eclipses have led to some profound changes to humans throughout history.
Eclipses, as mentioned, are often viewed as signs or evil omens and have led ancient tribes to sacrifice animals and other humans to sway what is seen as the angry mood of the gods.
Other old tales claim wildlife behave differently during a lunar eclipse.
This could also have some truth to it due to how eclipses temporarily dim the light of the Full Moon.
A study conducted in 2010 by the University of Pennsylvania Department of Anthropology of the owl monkey showed a pronounced change in monkey activity during a lunar eclipse.
The study suggests this is due to the changing light levels as the eclipse proceeds.
