BREAKING: ‘Suspicious package’ sent to UK consulate and others in Melbourne, Australia

The packages are being investigated after “hazardous material” was reported. Emergency services are at the scene on St Kilda Road and the city. Those believed to be targeted include the US, Italian, German, Korean, Indian and Swiss consulates.

Area is reportedly in lockdown and containment orders in place.

The investigation has been described as a “major operation”.

Firefighters and Australia Federal Police are reportedly on the scene at the New Zealand embassy also.

According to Vic Emergency, there are 10 hazardous material incidents on St Kilda Road, Collins Street, Queens Street, Albert Road and William Street or close to the central business district and separately in Ashwood.

All apparently correspond to a consulate.

The UK consulate is on Collins Street.
