NBA MVP candidate James Harden drops defender, drains three, draws foul – watch

Harden has been on fire through December and January, and is averaging 33.7 points-per-game.

This season he has shown the attacking prowess that saw him earn one of the largest contracts in the sport.

He recently became the first player in ten years to score 400 points in ten straight games.

Only Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan have done the same in the last 30 years.

His success has come with some controversy, however, as some have accused him of playing for fouls, and cheating referees.

Against the Utah Jazz, he appeared to take four steps before attempting a three-pointer, but the call was not made for travelling.

This led to Golden State Warriors star holding 13 up on his jersey on his fingers after being called out for the same move, suggesting that Harden would have got away with it.

On Monday night against the Nuggets, he was creating headlines once again.

Late in the second quarter, Harden turned Jamal Murray inside out before draining a three-pointer, and was somehow given a foul at the same time.

Harden twisted Murray around and made him fall down, before getting back up and trying to block the shot.

As he did so, referees judged that he had committed a foul, and awarded the Rockets star a free-throw.

Recently, Houston general manager Daryl Morey told ESPN that Harden had played his way into being one of the best offensive players ever.

“You could argue for him as the best offensive player of all time,” he said.

“To be able to say that with a straight face, and not have it be GM speak or coach speak, is pretty amazing.

“There’s a whole bunch of ways to measure it, but he’s for sure in the conversation as the greatest offensive player ever.”

Harden scored 32 points in the win over the Nuggets.
