Wayne Rooney ‘arrested for public intoxication and swearing in December’, US media reports

The US newscasters, abc7 News, report the former England professional was arrested on December 16 by the Washington Airport Authority.

It is believed he was arrested for “public swearing and intoxication”.

Another US media outlet The Athletic reports Rooney – who earned £20 million last year – paid a $25 fine on January 4.

Rooney is currently in the middle of a three-year deal at DC United.

Express.co.uk have contacted a representative of Wayne Rooney for comment.

A spokesman for Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said: “He was booked into the Loudoun County Adult Detention Centre on December 16, 2018, on a charge of public intoxication stepping from an arrest by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police (MWAA).

“He was later released on a personal recognizance bond.”(sic)

Rooney is currently in the middle of a three-year deal at DC United.

The former Manchester United star lives in the US and has done since June of last year.

Rooney recently announced his retirement from international competition when he played his final match for England.

He came back to play one more game with England to promote the Wayne Rooney Foundation back in November.

Rooney was recently charged with drink driving in 2017 while in control of a VW Beetle.

He said he “let his family down” after admitting to being three times the limit when he was arrested in Wilmslow.

Rooney appeared in Stockport Magistrate’s Court on 18 September where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

He was found to have 104 micrograms of alcohol in his breath – the legal limit is 35.

Following on from this, Rooney carried out 100 hours of unpaid work and was banned from driving of two years.

Rooney is the record goalscorer for England and Manchester United.

When he played for clubs, he won almost every honour open to him in English, European and Continental football.

He was denied the European Super Cup, however.

Rooney played for Everton and Manchester United on a club level.

He now plays for DC United and has scored 12 goals so far.
