The 49-year-old Loose Women presenter went live on Facebook with Nick yesterday to explain why they were “giving their guts a rest” with a cleanse. “Anyone that knows me knows that I am massively, massively allergic to lactose,” Andrea McLean told fans. “Now, this is not groundbreaking news, I’ve been allergic to it for 20-odd years.” She explained how, recently, she had become more intolerant to other foods too, finding herself feeling ill even when the couple had cooked fresh food at home and ensured there was no trace of lactose.
Andrea said she had been suffering from severe bloating, adding: “I was reacting badly to anything I was eating, energy levels really low… Every day was wading through treacle.”
Nick then noted how she had put some of her symptoms down to the menopause.
However, the mother-of-two revealed she had been to see nutrition and lifestyle coach Hannah Richard, author of The Best Possible You, and had tests done which had determined she was suffering from microsporidium, a fungal infection.
Looking uncomfortable, Andrea also said she had “a worm”, adding that her body was “totally out of balance, everything was wrong”.

The presenter said she was doing a “gut cleanse and a gut reset” and that Nick had offered to do it with her in order to be supportive.
The couple had then learned Nick would probably be suffering from the same ailments due to the fact they “do everything together”.
Giving an insight into their cleanse, Nick explained how it would last two months, with what they could eat in the first month being stricter than the second.
With carbohydrates, including bread, pasta, rice and potatoes, off limits, Andrea said the cleanse was in no way about losing weight but about “giving your gut a rest”.
“It is not a faddy diet thing. It’s to do with things that harbour mould and sugar,” she told fans. “It’s nothing to do with what you look like on the outside.”
Only five days in, Nick admitted he’s already struggling with the cleanse and is constantly thinking about food.
“Can our relationship stand a gut cleanse?” Andrea laughed. “Never mind can our guts stand a gut cleanse.
“You’re so intense about this!” she teased.
“All I’m going to say, if Andrea goes missing… I’ve eaten her,” her husband joked.
Brunette beauty Andrea previously explained she needed to “reboot her system” with the cleanse.
The pair tied the knot in November 2017 on the fourth anniversary of their first date.
Her Loose Women pals Stacey Solomon, Linda Robson, Nadia Sawalha, Jane Moore, Kaye Adams and Saira Khan were all in attendance at the wedding.
