Man Utd star Romelu Lukaku backed to leave for one reason – could it be this month?

The Belgium international has netted in both of his appearances under Solskjaer after the Norwegian replaced Jose Mourinho.

Lukaku, who was absent for two weeks for personal reasons, came off the bench against Bournemouth and Newcastle to help United win all four of their games under Solskjaer.

The United interim manager has favoured Marcus Rashford in recent weeks, with Solskjaer a big admirer of the 21-year-old.

And ex-United ace Brazil reckons Lukaku could end up leaving the Red Devils, as he doesn’t suit Solskjaer’s style of play.

“As the game was going on, I was thinking ‘are we going to score here?’ because Newcastle were bringing everyone back but then you think that you’ve got £140million on the bench in those two players and Solskjaer has been going on about how Sanchez has been full of running in training,” he told LoveSport Radio.

“I was delighted he brought the two of them on at the same time.

“But I still think Lukaku’s days at United are numbered in terms of how Solskjaer or how a new manager wants to play.

“Lukaku is one of them that depends on the team he is in.

“There’s too much pressure on him at United whereas Rashford as United’s striker can handle the pressure. Whether Lukaku can or not…”

Solskjaer replaced Mourinho on an interim basis, with United expected to pursue Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino this summer.

However, the United boss has publicly revealed his desire to be in charge past this season.

“Of course, I won’t [want to leave,] I don’t want to,” Solskjaer said after the Newcastle win.

“It’s such a great bunch of players, atmosphere, but it’s the next game, it’s the next game, it’s the next game, and I’m doing my job as long as I’m here.

“Of course, tougher challenges await. We’ve played teams in the lower half of the table, but these games need to be won, you can’t beat anyone else other than the team you’re playing.

“The performance today was really professional, very solid.

“To come here against a club like this, with the fans they’ve got, it was excellent how the boys dealt with it in the second-half.”
