Bank holidays in 2019 are still some ways off, as the next guilt-free day off lies almost halfway through the year in April. And even with bank holidays, there is no guarantee of employers providing a paid day off for everyone so many workers may be looking for ways they can extend their holidays and get paid at the same time. Thankfully, there is a way to strategically use bank holidays in tandem with booked time off to make your holidays seem much longer.

What are the 2019 bank holiday dates in England?

How can you get more holiday days in 2019?

Strategically playing bank holiday dates alongside allocated work holiday will allow you to use fewer days but still have long holidays.

Easter will be the next chance for people to make use of bank holidays and booked holiday in tandem.

For this period, if you book April 15 to 18, and April 23 to 26 off via work, you will secure a 16-day breakby just taking six day annual leave.

After this, you can use May bank holidays to substitute another few holiday dates, with May 7 to 10 off.

This will be making use of the May 6 bank holiday and coupled with days off on May 28 to 31, will make use of the May 27 holiday.

This is another nine days off, with just four days of holiday in total used.

The method is the same for every other bank holiday this year, if you book around the above dates, you will use just a fraction of your allocated days off work and have some extra days available later.

Does everyone get guaranteed bank holidays off?

While bank holidays are a guarantee for students and pupils at school, workers are not so lucky.

According to Citizens Advice, employers can provide bank holidays off at their own discretion and can have people working on the day.

Citizens Advice says: “If your place of work is closed on bank holidays, your employer can make you take them as part of your annual leave entitlement.

“Some employers might give you bank holidays off and pay you for them on top of your annual leave entitlement. This will be outlined in your contract.”
