Aquaman box office: Aquaman surpasses THIS movie at the box office

With positive responses from fans, it seems almost impossible an Aquaman sequel won’t be in the works. But Warner Brothers hasn’t confirmed the DC Comics adaptation – yet. The box office takings have cemented the underwater adventure story as a hit. What movie has Aquaman surpassed?

Aquaman has grossed £654.43 million ($822 m) worldwide, officially placing it ahead of Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman earned £654.15 m ($821.8 m), so the lead is slim but it’s there.

The profit Aquaman has garnered means a sequel is highly likely.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Amber Heard said: “Meera is a badass and she saves the day and she saves him on multiple occasions. I love that.

AQUAMAN LOCATION: WHERE WAS THE AQUAMAN MOVIE FILMED?

“Also, I love that he plays a more complex hero, one who’s flawed and is human and is sensitive.”

Heard added: “For the sequel, I’d like to see more of that.

“Now that we’ve allowed for her to have strength, I’d like to allow for her to have some weirdness, some flaws, some weakness in a way that’s not the typical damsel weakness.

“We allow the hyper-masculine image on the outside to be countered with sensitivity and emotional depth.

AQUAMAN RUNTIME: HOW LONG IS AQUAMAN? FULL RUNTIME REVEALED

“We’re not just challenging female representation, we’re challenging male representation and I think both need to be addressed.”

Patrick Wilson, who plays King Orm, said: “I’m fascinated by, in the comics, Orm in the surface world. He’s so dry in the movie, he’s not a hilarious character

“I think there’s a lot of humour with him, you get that with Mera and Arthur as fish out of the water, so there wasn’t really any room for Orm to play in that world.

“Just for my own curiosity, it’d be fun to see him in a group of people on the surface, wondering what they’re doing.”

AQUAMAN ACTOR: WHO IS JASON MOMOA? ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE STAR

With Aquaman and Wonder Woman WB seems to finally have righted the ship of their DC Comics adaptations.

Warner Bros next adaptation, Shazam, is put in good stead given Aquaman’s success.

But the DC EU still has a long way to go to catch up to Marvel.

The last market in which Aquaman still has to open is Japan, which may push Aquaman towards the one billion dollar take.

Aquaman stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Willem Dafoe, and Nicole Kidman.

Aquaman is now playing in cinemas.
