Pokemon Go January update: What are the January Research Quests and rewards?

Pokemon Go January Research Quests have arrived and offers trainers a rare chance at encountering a Shiny. This is the first time Lugia and Ho-Oh Pokemon are available as rewards outside of a Raid Battle and they could become Shiny when you encounter them, making it important to complete as many Research Quests as possible. There are plenty of rewards to get excited about on offer but because it is early days, no visual guide is yet available.

The Pokemon Go January Research Quests see fan favourites returning including Machop and the Kanto Starters.

The Kanto fossil Pokemon Kabuto and Omanyte will feature in January’s Research Quests.

And Sandshrew will also star in one of the research tasks, and has the chance to be Shiny.

Now all of the January 2019 Field Research breakthrough rewards have been revealed, it can be confirmed players have a total of eight Pokemon from the boxes.

Pokemon GO players will have the chance of getting Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos from Gen 1, as well as Entei, Raikou, and Suicune from Gen 2 on top of Ho-Oh and Lugia.

The legendary birds and dogs were the December 2018 Field Research breakthrough rewards.

And the theory that they would carry over into 2019 seems to have been proven correct.

Here’s every task in January with its corresponding reward Pokemon:

Hatch an Egg – Exeggcute, Snubbull (Shiny)

Hatch 3 Eggs – Magmar

Hatch 5 Eggs – Chansey

Catch a Dragon-type Pokémon – Dratini (Shiny)

Catch 10 Pokémon – Magikarp (Shiny), Houndour (Shiny)

Catch 10 Ice-type Pokémon – Kabuto (Shiny)

Catch 10 Ground-type Pokémon – Sandshrew (Shiny)

Catch 5 Fighting-type Pokémon – Magnemite (Shiny)

Catch 5 Pokémon with Weather Boost – Vulpix, Poliwag

Use 10 Pinap Brries while catching Pokémon – Magikarp (Shiny)

Use 5 Berries to help catch Pokémon – Growlithe (Shiny)

Battle in a Gym – Mankey, Machop
