Christy Turlington turns 50 today: A look back at the American supermodel in pictures

Christy Turlington turns 50 today.

The stunning American supermodel, who shot to fame in the 1990s, celebrates her milestone birthday on January 2.

The brunette beauty has famously modelled for all the top designers including Calvin Klein, Versace and Chanel to name but a few.

She appeared on the cover of British Vogue at the start of the decade with fellow supermodels Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Cindy Crawford reaffirming her position as one of the top models of the era.

The California-born star was discovered by a local photographer in Florida and first walked the runway at the young age of 14 while attending school in her hometown.

She then move to New York to work full-time and the rest, as they say, is history.

The supermodel, who is married Edward Burns and mother to Grace, 15, and Finn, 12, launched the Every Mother Counts organisation in 2010, raising money and awareness for maternal health around the world.

The supermodel has completed several marathons over the years for her cause including the London marathon and the gruelling 200 mile Hood To Coast Relay from Timberline Lodge on the slopes of Mount Hood to the Oregon Coast.
