Michael Schumacher news: Formula 1 legend used to ‘freak out’ during public appearances

The Formula 1 legend could be a “complex human being”, Sabine Kehm said. The 49-year-old suffered life-changing head injuries in a skiing accident during a family holiday in the French Alps on December 29, 2013. the seven-time champion has not been in public and the family has only released a few details about his recovery.

Kehm said described Schumacher as being “faithful, reliable, dutiful and fact-driven” on the fifth anniversary of his accident.

She said while speaking to German media Express: “With the same meticulousness he used to drive his professional development, he shielded his private side and his family from public life, consciously accepting that people were having a hard time meeting him.”

She also recalled how he told her “do I have to demonstratively show I have feelings to that they can be taken from me?”

Kehm recalled how he revealed that he had a “secret dream” to disappear from public life.

She added that he was “insecure” and was worried about making mistakes.

However, the German hero soon evolved into a confident man after stepping back and evaluating who he was as a person and a racing driver.

Following his accident while skiing he was put into a medically induced coma and subsequently underwent two life-saving operations at Grenoble Hospital.

He was taken out from the coma in April 2014 and was moved to a hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland.

In April 2015 it was reported Schumacher was showing “moments of consciousness and awakening”.

And then a statement was then released three months later confirming he was no longer in a coma.
