Carol Kirkwood: BBC Breakfast star cringes as she revisits some of her fashion choices

BBC Breakfast acknowledged 56-year-old Carol Kirkwood’s 20 years on the hit programme by sharing a video of some of her best bits online.

A video shared on the show’s official Twitter page was captioned: “We’re celebrating 20 years of @carolkirkwood on BBC Breakfast!

“Here are just some of her best bits!”

In the delightful clip, the broadcaster is seen messing around with Hacker T.Dog from the children’s television series CBBC.

Also, she is captured trying her hand at hula-hooping and reporting from inside a bathtub, which was converted into a car.

Another sequence saw the presenter dancing with her former colleague Bill Turnbull, 62, and hilariously forgetting both Naga Munchetty, 43, and 41-year-old Dan Walker’s names.

With so much action in the short video some would have expected Carol to comment on her favourite bits.

Instead the radio presenter mocked some of her outfits after watching the footage back on social media.

Reflecting on what she had seen, she wrote: “Ahhh thank you! 20 fun years! But some of these outfits!”

The post was followed by a blushing face and blowing kiss emoji, as well as several kisses.

Her legion of loyal fans did not seem to notice some of her more unusual outfit choices and congratulated the star on 20 years at the BBC.

One fan tweeted: “Congratulations Carol, here’s to plenty more fun.”

Another penned: “Congratulations C! 20 Years of Grace Under Fire and being pecked by penguins. Should be in the #NewYearsHonoursList.”

A third shared: “Well done Carol just as good as ever,” while a fourth said: “Carol you are fab.”(sic)

Someone else remarked: “Happy anniversary on your 20 wonderful years.”

Another fan asked: “Who wouldn’t want to celebrate? Carol, you are incredible! Here’s to you and the next 20!”

Carol first joined BBC Breakfast in 1998, but before that she worked as a secretary for the corporation.

Although she never intended to be a weather reporter, she was given presenting roles across BBC radio.

However, she took some time away from the BBC after marrying property developed Jimmy Kirkwood, who she divorced in 2008, in 1990.

She later returned after an old colleague suggested she audition for a weather reporting role, and she has been at BBC Breakfast ever since.
