Premier League Team of the Year: Robbie Savage names his 2018 XI – No De Gea or De Bruyne

There is just one more round of fixtures to go before the curtain closes on Premier League action in 2018, with Liverpool currently leading the way at the top of the table ahead of defending champions Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side romped to the title in May, picking up 100 points and easily dismissing all challengers as they scooped top honours by a record margin.

However, City are now trailing a rejuvenated who reached the Champions League final at the end of the 2017/18 campaign – only to fall short on an agonising night in Kiev.

Former Wales midfielder and regular pundit Robbie Savage has cast his eye over the last year in order to select his best Premier League XI from the previous 12 months – but some big names have missed out.

There are no players in his final team, meaning last season’s Golden Glove winner David De Gea misses out.

The Spaniard has only kept two clean sheets so far during the current campaign, although things are looking up at Old Trafford in the aftermath of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replacing Jose Mourinho.

Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne’s injury-plagued 2018/19 campaign has seen the Belgian miss out on a spot in Savage’s side despite ending last season with a league-high 16 assists.

Six of De Bruyne’s team-mates are included in the final cut while two players from both Liverpool and Tottenham are also selected – but who else makes up the 3-4-3?

GK – Ederson (Manchester City)

CB – Aymeric Laporte (Manchester City)

CB – Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

CB – Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham Hotspur)

RM – Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)

CM – David Silva (Manchester City)

CM – Fernandinho (Manchester City)

LM – Leroy Sane (Manchester City)

RW – Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

LW – Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

ST – Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)
