Piers Morgan has given his Good Morning Britain colleague Charlotte Hawkins the award for “most shocking exclamation” in his light-hearted 2018 Morgan Awards. The outspoken journalist has admitted his co-star “lost her cool” after a technical blunder on the ITV daytime show earlier this year. The 53-year-old has spoken out about the mother-of-one’s, 43, autocue breaking, right before a news piece on a bionic penis. She was said to have been left saying she didn’t want to go on air without a script behind-the-scenes.
Writing in his column for The Mail On Sunday’s Event, Piers stated: “My demure GMB colleague Charlotte Hawkins rarely gets flustered when she reads the news, but lost her cool when the autocue froze seconds before we went to air.
“Her concern was exacerbated by the particularly sensitive nature of one of the main stories.”
The father-of-four went on: “‘The script has gone down!’ she shouted, ‘and I really don’t want to go alfresco about a bionic penis!’”
Charlotte later shared the the fun news with her 101,000 Instagram followers, thankfully taking it all in good humour.
She quipped: “Obviously delighted to win the Most Shocking Exclamation in @thepiersmorgan’s Morgan Awards in today’s @eventmagazine… #bionicpenis #wordsyouthoughtyoudneversay.”
During the piece, Piers also went into detail about his own “humiliating cock-up”, and it involved a Love Island 2018 star.
He added: “When dimwit Hayley Hughes appeared on GMB, I decided to expose her stupidity by asking her: ‘Do you know Pythagoras’ theorem to five decimal places?’
“When she said no, Susanna Reid asked me if I did. ‘Yes, it’s 3.147…’ I confidently began, before one of our camera crew shouted out: ‘That’s Pi, not Pythagoras!’
“I froze in horror. He was right, and I’d mugged myself right off.”
Charlotte today appeared on GMB alongside Kate Garraway and Richard Arnold, updating her fans on the picture-sharing app.
She said: “Happy Christmas Eve! A festive @GMB starting with crackers & christmas onesies. Talking traditions today – do you do a Christmas Eve box full of gifts?

Charlotte cut a festive figure in a curve-hugging navy dress, complete with a low-cut necklace and subtle pattern.
“Some festive sparkle for our Christmas Eve show,” she said, before taking a cheeky selfie with hitmaker LadBaby.
