Man Utd ace makes Jose Mourinho revelation after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer impact

That’s the view of United star Nemanja Matic, who has admitted that the players should take responsibility for poor results.

Mourinho was sacked by Manchester United last week after a disappointing season with the Red Devils well off the pace in the Premier League.

Reports suggested that it wasn’t just on the pitch that things weren’t firing for United with it being claimed that Mourinho had fallen out with a number of players on the training ground.

Following the sacking, United appointed club hero Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a caretaker basis until the end of the season.

Solksjaer’s first game saw one of United’s best performances this season in a 5-1 win over Cardiff.

But Matic doesn’t necessarily believe that’s because of the change of boss.

“Of course,” Matic replied when asked whether the players should take responsibility for Mourinho’s demise.

“I said this also after the Liverpool game, that we have to take responsibility and do our best to play better and to win games.

“I don’t know [what changed at Cardiff]. This is the question no-one has an answer to but we are sure this is the way to continue, to fight and we will try to do it.

”This is football. In football this happens. We know also it’s not only the manager’s fault when the results are not good.”

Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham believes Mourinho goaded club chiefs into sacking him.

“It looked for me as if Jose was ready for the sack,” Sheringham told Love Sport Radio.

“He’s been saying the wrong things for me for the last six or seven months.

“Even about eight or nine months ago, Mourinho came out and said ‘United can’t sack me, they can’t afford to. For me that was goading the people above him.

“And ever since then he was talking about how good other teams are despite spending £400million.

“If you can’t get a good team out of that then you really are struggling.”
