The Lakers are looking to surround LeBron James with more superstar-calibre talent to help their chances of winning a championship in his four years in LA.
Their hopes of landing a big name in free agency look slim despite the likes of Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant all being on the market.
But the Lakers remain linked with a major trade for New Orleans Pelicans big man Davis.
The five-time All-Star’s wide range of abilities would significantly increase the Lakers’ potential for a title – but he will not become a free agent until 2020.

He could force the Pelicans into accepting a trade offer if he refuses a five-year $235million supermax contract in the summer of 2019, with New Orleans then likely to reluctantly take the best deal on offer to avoid losing their star man for nothing a year later.
But while the Lakers have pieces they could offer to the Pelicans, they are likely to face strong competition from the Boston Celtics who also have an array of talents they could offer in exchange for Davis.
And Rose worries that the Lakers will not be able to get the 25-year-old just by offering Ingram and Ball.
Rose told Jalen and Jacoby on ESPN: “Here’s what’s taking place, you’re going to hear a lot of people jump my broken news report that I said on this show in September – that this would be his final season with the team.
“That if he did end up leaving, it would be for Los Angeles because they possibly have the requisite parts to get the deal done.
“I actually think the Celtics have better assets which may come into play if there’s an actual deal to be done.
“But with that being said, everybody always looks at the deal one-sided. ‘If I’m the Lakers…’ Of course you want Anthony Davis! Of course if you’re the Wizards you want Anthony Davis! Or whoever.
“But you can’t just give me KCP [Kentavious Caldwell-Pope] and Brandon Ingram. You’re not going to be able to do it.
“Here’s a dirty secret – everyone knows when dealing with the Lakers they have two separate rosters on the same squad; the older gentlemen on one-year contracts who aren’t as attractive except KCP because it’s a $12million number.
“Then you’ve got all the promising rookies that are on rookie contracts. I don’t move [Kyle] Kuzma – period. I don’t move [Josh] Hart – period.
“Lonzo Ball and Ingram could possibly be available in deals but here’s the problem, does that garner you an All-Star in return?”
