LeBron James: Anthony Davis trade claim made about Lakers, this ‘HAS to happen’

That is the opinion of former Laker Derek Fisher.

The Lakers have been linked with a host of moves as they look to land a major talent in free agency in 2019.

Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Kawhi Leonard are among the big-name players they could hope to lure to southern California to join LeBron in their championship chase.

The Lakers have also been strongly linked with a blockbuster trade for New Orleans Pelicans forward Davis, who could reject a supermax contract in hope of joining a more competitive franchise.

And discussing the moves his former team need to make to give LeBron the best chance to lead the Lakers to a record-equalling 17th title, Fisher thinks Davis would tick all the boxes.

Fisher – who spent eight years with the Lakers and won three championships – told Colin Cowherd on The Herd: “Any version of additional perimeter shooting. That has to happen.

“Then I think a longer term future in the middle.

“JaVale McGee has been fantastic, he really has, but three years or five years from now, then you have to look at Anthony Davis or someone who can impact the middle of the court.

“You have LeBron at the wing, great perimeter shooting and then somebody in the middle that’s protecting the rim, making it really difficult for people to score in the paint.

“But also [someone] can run the floor, roll to the rim and also stretch the floor with some shooting.

“Guys like Anthony Davis comes to mind as far as the future.”

ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski, however, has warned that the Lakers will face competition from the Boston Celtics should Davis elect to seek an exit from the Pelicans.

He said: “Boston has been hawking Anthony Davis for years.

“They always hoped that it would be, at the end of this season or beginning of next before the trading deadline, that they would gather up all those assets, the picks Danny Ainge has and the young players and they’d be the team to get him.

“But now you have LA, if they get shut out in free agency, they’re going to have to take all their young players to try to get Davis.

“There’s no deal that’s coming for New Orleans where Davis looks and says, ‘I think I can win a championship here.’

“If he stays with the Pelicans, it’s because of the $235million.”
