Carol Kirkwood: 'I'm flattered' BBC Breakfast star opens up on dating offers from viewers

Carol Kirkwood, 56, said she has no intentions of following up on offers from fans to take her out.

Despite the BBC Breakfast star admitting it can be “very” flattering being asked out on dates, she does not want to accept their invitations.

“Sometimes you do get invited out by viewers,” said the TV personality, who divorced her husband, Jimmy Kirkwood, in 2008.

“But I don’t know these people that are writing emails to me saying, ‘Let’s go to dinner’,” she told The Sun in 2015.

She continued: “I’m very flattered that anybody would be bothered to do that, but I don’t know who they are so I’m not tempted to follow them up.”

Carol, who first joined BBC Breakfast in 1998, recently shocked her fans when she told co-star Dan Walker she would “see you next Tuesday”.

Leading up to the remark, the meteorologist and Dan, 41, had an awkward conversation about their office Christmas party.

Last week, Carol, who was on the weather screen, was asked by Dan: “Are you coming to our Christmas party, Carol?”

“No I’m not,” Carol told the BBC host, who was in the main studio with his co-host and business journalist Steph McGovern.

“Did you get an invite?” he queried, to which Steph replied: “This is awkward! She wasn’t invited.”

Enquiring, Carol added: “That is a good point, when is it?” Before exclaiming: “Left off the list again!”

Chuckling, Dan insisted: “I’ll come down and treat you. Alright, see you later.”

“I wouldn’t hold my breath for that one Dan. I’ll be waiting for years for that to happen!” Carol laughed.

To which, a cheeky Dan replied: “You know me too well Carol, see you later.”

Then, Carol disappeared from the screen as Dan turned to Steph, 36, and joked: “That went well: ‘You coming to the party? Didn’t get an invite’.”

Later in the show, Dan took it upon himself to explain the earlier events and discovered Carol would be busy on the day of the party.

“You do come most years, it’s lovely to see you Carol but we will miss you this year,” he mentioned.

“Thank you, I’ll see you next Tuesday anyway so that will be nice too,” Carol remarked.

Viewers were stunned by Carol’s “see you next Tuesday” remark and took to Twitter to discuss the moment.

“@carolkirkwood just threw down a C U Next Tuesday to @mrdanwalker on @BBCBreakfast not sure if she meant she’d see him then or if she was insulting him!” one shared.

Another added: “Can’t believe that @carolkirkwood just told @mrdanwalker she would C U Next Tuesday. How rude at 7.20am.”
