Bohemian Rhapsody: Freddie Mercury’s sister’s ‘bizarre’ SHOCK reaction to Rami Malek

Fans love the film. Critics have been less kind but even they agree that Rami Malek’s performance is incredible. The actor is already starting to collect Best Actor nominations for the upcoming awards season. But he revealed that the “most important” critic of all, Freddie’s sister Kashmira Cooke had a “bizarre and alien” shock reaction to his portrayal of her beloved brother.

Malek told Jimmy Kimmel: “She got to see me as young Freddie with long hair and the teeth, make-up, the whole 1970s, early glam-rock look.”

And then Kashmira laughed at him. Malek added: “As you can imagine it was an incredibly bizarre, alien moment for her.

“Later on, it was a very emotional moment.

“On a serious note, she wrote me the most moving email, it was very powerful. To get that vote of appreciation from the people who were closest to him was everything for me.”

Malek has confirmed that getting to spend time with Kasmira was key to understanding Freddie and bringin his performance to life.

He told The Wrap: “I thought, ‘I have one responsibility: to do this human being justice and to make him proud and to make Queen proud.’

“I got to spend a lot of time with Kash — I call her Kash, which is a phenomenal thing I never thought I’d be doing in my life — and just being able to talk to her and hold her hand and give her a hug and have tea with her is such a gift. And to have had this experience and to feel some kinship with Freddie Mercury and to hear stories about him through his sister, it means everything to me.”

Queen icon Brian May has praised Malek’s incredible performance and revealed that the original actor cast in the role, Sacha Baron Cohen, would have been a disaster.

May and Roger Taylor have commented that even they forgot sometimes they were watching actors and not footage of their younger selves.

The remarkable recreation of one of the biggest bands of all time has helped propel the movie to over $600million at the global box office and upcoming award season glory looks set to follow.
