Huge blow to Melania Trump as new poll sees First Lady’s popularity PLUMMET in just months

CNN’s latest figures show just 43 percent of Americans approve of the First Lady. The drop comes after she achieved a high of 57 percent in October. The number of people who view her unfavourably has also risen to 36 percent.

The results of the new poll were released on Thursday, the day after a rare one to one interview with Mrs Trump was aired on Fox News.

However, the poll was conducted for CNN via telephone by SSRS from December 6-9.

Mrs Trump has notoriously taken more of a back seat in her role as First Lady than her predecessors.

It is unusual for her to agree to sit down interviews and tends not to court the limelight.

In her interview with Sean Hannity, she accused the media of “writing history”.

Mrs Trump called out “the opportunists” who attack her family when probed about how treatment in the media affected her.

Mr Hannity asked: “Does it hurt?”

The First Lady replied: “It doesn’t hurt.

“The problem is they’re writing history and it’s not correct.”

She added: “They like to focus on the gossip and I just wish they could focus on the substance of what we do and not nonsense.”

She also criticised the attention that had been given to her son, Barron.

The First Lady said: “I want to give him as normal a life as possible.

“This is not a normal life but I like to protect him and give him the childhood that he deserves.”
