LeBron James: Huge Knicks trade revelation made about Lakers star by NBA pundit

However, the internal problems surrounding the Knicks convinced the Los Angeles Lakers not to pursue that option, according to pundit Leigh Ellis.

James – a four-time MVP – cut his ties with the Cleveland Cavaliers and signed for the Lakers last summer.

Although James faced questions at the start of the season in relation to free throws he missed and not clicking so effectively with Brandon Ingram, James has been instrumental on the floor and helped turn things around for the Lakers.

James has played for four times in his career and has been an NBA champion on three occasions.

But Ellis is adamant that James was never going to play for the Knicks.

When asked whether a trade to the Knicks could have happened for James, he said: “He was never going to go there.

“2010 was probably the most likely time he was going to go there.

“It was more the dysfunction within the team that turned him off.

“I don’t think he wanted to go to a team where the situation was chaotic.

“The other option was to stay in Cleveland or go to Miami.

“He had a chance to go to Miami and the organisation had a better reputation for taking care of player.

“Knicks have been a dysfunctional franchise for so long and I don’t think LeBron thought that was his best chance to win there unless they got another talent in.”

James weighed in with 28 points as the Lakers beat Miami Heat on Monday night.

After the game, James hugged his old friend Dwyane Wade, who he faced for the last time on court.

Luke Walton’s men are fifth in the Western Conference and hold a 17-10 record.

Next up for the Lakers is the Pelicans who they face on home floor on Saturday at 3.30am UK time (7pm US time).
