Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho handed Marcus Rashford advice – ‘He needs this’

That is the view of former Liverpool defender and Match of the Day pundit Mark Lawrenson.

After a good display against Arsenal on Wednesday, Rashford backed it up with a dominant display against Fulham on Saturday.

Rashford bagged two first-half assists and capped his performance with a goal in the second half.

The Manchester United forward was then given a standing ovation by the home fans and a warm embrace by his manager Jose Mourinho.

And Lawrenson was impressed with what he saw from Rashford and gave Mourinho some advice on how to manage him.

“It is a really sweet strike from a difficult angle,” Lawrenson told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“[Sergio] Rico was guessing a bit as to whether it was going to be a cross.

“It was just blistering pace and power that took it past his near post.

“Rashford just needs some loving – a more carrot than stick approach.”

United’s win was their first after four successive draws.

And Rashford feels United need to work harder to get out of their slump.

“In the position we’re in now, when it’s difficult and we’re not playing our best football, that has to be the thing that you do first and foremost,” he said.

“That’s what was in my mind: that whatever happens, go out there and give 110 per cent so when you come off the pitch you have no regrets.

“There’s no secret, it’s just a direct correlation: if you work hard, you get results.

“That’s always the thing I naturally go back to, especially when things aren’t going well.

“It’s just about hard work and us keeping on grinding out games when we’re not playing at our best, and at the same time we’re always trying to improve because we want to play our best football and that’s the level we have to get to.”
