Trump to be IMPEACHED? Congress will have ‘NO CHOICE’ according to key Watergate figure

John Dean, former House House counsel to President Nixon, said there was enough evidence for Congress to start impeachment proceedings. He said that the evidence came from a memo released by federal prosecutors working on a case involving Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen. The filing said that Mr Cohen, who was found guilty of violating campaign finance law, said he was instructed to make the payments by Trump.

Mr Dean told CNN: “Michael Cohen implicated Trump directly.

“I don’t know that this will forever disappear into some dark hole of unprosecutable Presidents.

“I think it will resurface in the Congress.

“I think what this totality of today’s filings show is that the House is going to have little choice the way this is going but to start impeachment proceedings.”

The House of Representatives was taken control of by the Democrats after the midterm elections in November.

This means that the likelihood of this happening is much greater than before, when Republicans controlled both the Senate and the House.

When the new elected representatives take over in January, Democrats will have new subpoena powers, meaning they can compel witnesses to make a testimony.

However, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said the memo revealed “nothing of value that wasn’t already known”.

She added: “Mr Cohen has repeatedly lied and as the prosecution has pointed out to the court, Mr Cohen is no here.”

The filing states that Mr Cohen claimed he “acted in coordination with and at the direction of” Trump in paying hush money to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, who both claimed they had affairs with Trump.

Whilst Trump is not named in the filings, it does say that Cohen worked for “Individual 1” as his personal lawyer after the person “had become President of the United States”.

Representative Ted Lieu, from the House Judiciary Committee, said that the filing meant Trump allegedly committed two felonies.

He said: “When you look at what the prosecutors did in the Southern District of New York, they allege that DOnald Trump directed two campaign finance violations.

“These are felonies and you can infer intent by looking at the defendant’s statements.”
