Parents are naming their babies after Melania and Ivanka Trump – the reason is SURPRISING

The name Ivanka has grown in popularity by 362 percent since 2015. Meanwhile, the name Melania rose in popularity by 227 percent. However, this may not be entirely political, as parents are reportedly moving away from traditional names to more unique ones.

This is supported by the fact that the names Donald and Eric have dipped in popularity.

Donald dropped in popularity by 11 percent, while Eric dropped by 6 percent.

Melania was the fifth fastest-rising baby-girl name in 2017.

It increased by a mind-boggling 720 places to enter the top 1000 most popular names at 930.

In 2017, 283 babies were called Melania.

Pamela Redmond Satran, co-founder of Nameberry.com told Refinery29: “I would guess that at least 280 of them were because people heard and liked the first lady’s name.

“It’s got the ingredients to be a popular name apart from the influence of Mrs Trump.

“It’s both familiar and exotic and is similar to some recent names that became more visible and more popular, like Malia.

“You might not have to be a rabid Trump fan, or even a Republican, to name your baby Melania, but you have to feel positive about the association because it will be universal in the US.”

Last year, 164 baby girls were named Ivanka and 191 girls were called Ivana, which is Donald Trump’s daughter’s real name, as she was named after her mother.

Ivanka is her nickname.

Another reason for this could be that Ivanka and Melania are seen more as peacemakers than policy makers.

Data by AreaVibes showed Sasha and Malia gained popularity during the Obama administration.

Sasha and Malia were the names of the former President’s daughters.
