Steph Curry: Steve Kerr makes Warriors selection decision ahead of Raptors clash

Curry has missed the last 10 games with a groin injury, and after a recent blip, they have won each of their last three matches.

Before he succumbed to injury, Curry was in free flowing mode, averaging nearly 30 points per game.

When on the floor, Curry has been a calming influence, however he was in exuberant mood when his side beat Orlando Magic 116-110 on Tuesday night.

And Kerr expects Curry to be back starting against the Detroit Pistons come Sunday midnight UK time (7pm ET).

“Steph is not going to play tomorrow [Thursday night], he wants to play, he’s ready to play and we are just going to be extra cautious,” he said.

“Rick [Celebrini, director of sports medicine and performance] felt very strongly based on his years of experience doing this stuff that it makes sense to be extra careful, but he will play in Detroit.”

“He’s dying to play, he loves playing in Toronto, he’s got great memories of being there when Dell [Wardell Stephen Curry, Steph’s Dad] was playing at the Raptors.”

Meanwhile, NBA expert Sekou Smith thinks the Raptors fans will be hard done by with Curry not playing.

He said: “I think the real losers are the fans [Raptors].

“They got their eyes on the trip to the finals and this could be that one opportunity they would have to see their team against the Warriors in Toronto before that proposed finals match up would happen.

“But if you are Steph Curry, you don’t take any chances at all.

“You don’t rush Steph Curry back from this injury.

“Steph is a stabilising force for the Warriors.

“It’s not just about having him back in the mix on the court shooting and stretching the floor.”

Warriors are 15-7 and second in the Western Conference.
