Porsche has pulled the wraps off the new and updated 911 2019.
The updated car is entering its eighth generation and Porsche says it “continues to set the standard when it comes to exclusive sporting performance.”
It is unmistakably a 911 but looks a little more muscular from the front and significantly wider wheel housings arch over the 20-inch diameter front wheels and 21-inch diameter rear wheels.
The whole exterior shell excluding the front and rear sections is made entirely out of alluminium and the car’s door handles electronically pop out of the side of the car, so they are completely flush when driving.
There are also a few other little tweaks across the car’s exterior which separate it from the previous generation model.
Inside the car, the design has been refined and rethought and the fascia design with recessed instruments is inspired by 1970s models.
At the centre of the dashboard is now a 10.9-inch touchscreen which controls the car’s entertainment and navigation.
One new software integration is the ‘Porsche Road Trip software which helps to plan and organise routes to drive on.
They are specially curated and feature hotel and restaurant recommendations as well as points of interest.
Porsche Impact is also a new emissions calculator system which calculates the financial contributions that Porsche customers can pay to offset their CO2 footprint.
They themselves can choose the internationally certified climate projects in which to invest.
There also a few new assistance systems which include ‘Wet’ mode which detects water on the road and warns the driver, who can then set up the vehicle for a particular emphasis on safety, by simply pushing a button or using the mode switch on the steering wheel.
A warning and brake assist system is also fitted as standard, which wants the driver about things that could cause a collision and can even initiate emergency braking.
Night Vision Assist with a thermal imaging camera is optionally available for the 911 for the first time. The adaptive cruise control option includes automatic distance control, stop-and-go function, reversible occupant protection, and an innovative autonomous Emergency Assist function.
Powering the 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera 4 is a is a turbocharged flat-six engine which now produces 450 PS (331 kW), a 30PS increase in power compared to the previous generation model.
Both 911 models can accelerate from zero to 62 mph in under four seconds: the rear-wheel-drive Coupé can achieve this benchmark in 3.7 seconds and the 911 Carrera 4S with all-wheel drive in 3.6 seconds.
Top speeds for the car are now 191 mph (911 Carrera S) and 190 mph for the all-wheel-drive version.
Power is fed t the wheels by an all-new eight-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission.
The 911 Carrera S Coupé with PDK costs from £93,110 and the 911 Carrera 4S Coupé with PDK from £98,418.
Both models are available to order from Porsche Centres in the UK and Ireland from today.
