Legend of Zelda news coming soon for Nintendo Switch fans?

According to the latest news on the subject, the next game to follow Zelda Breath of the Wild in the series might not be as far out as we first thought.

The latest Legend of Zelda game has proven a huge hit on the Nintendo Switch and is one the reasons the console sold so well in its first three months.

The exclusive title garnered amazing review scores and has even been nominated as one of the best games ever made.

So news of a sequel being in the works could prove to be very interesting to Legend of Zelda fans.

While Nintendo hasn’t been talking much about the sequel to BOTW, there has been an update on the next Zelda game being released.

This will be the latest Zelda game in the series to launch, although that doesn’t mean it will be a direct sequel.

And according to Game Informer, the successor to BOTW might not be as far out as we all first thought.

Game Informer editor Imran Khan hinted at as much during a recent GI podcast, telling the panel:

“I was just thinking what I should say about that. The next Zelda will probably be sooner than we think… I will talk to you guys off camera about stuff.”

When asked if it could be a small follow up, like Triforce Heroes, Khan added: “Not exactly.”

So while it doesn’t sound like it will be a massive sequel to Zelda Breath of the Wild, it could be something special for gamers to wait for.

When it comes to what will patiently in that Nintendo Switch games sequel, nothing is known.

Zelda director Hidemaro Fujibayashi has confirmed that concepts and ideas are being gathered for the follow-up game in the series.

However, at this stage, it’s still unclear if it will be a direct Zelda Breath of the Wild sequel, or something completely different.

But having seen the latest title take on Link’s adventures go down a slightly different gameplay route, it appears that the Zelda team are pleased with the results.

In fact, they are aiming to create the same level of freedom found in Breath of the Wild, for their next big Switch project.

Zelda creator Eiji Aonuma has also reportedly confirmed in an interview in the Breath of the Wild Master Books, that work on the next title is in progress.

But as you might expect, whatever is being worked on will likely take a long time to come to fruition.

The timeline between past Zelda games suggests a long wait, however, it’s fair to say that Breath of the Wild took longer, due in part to the Switch.

Could the Next Zelda project to follow BOTW be something completely different? Or will it be a more familiar adventure?

There’s plenty of room for Nintendo to work on remasters and remakes for the Nintendo Switch, especially when you consider that the console doesn’t have a virtual console.

A remaster in the vein of the FF7 Remake or Resident Evil 2 would certainly go down well with Ocarina of Time fans.

But until more is shared on what Nintendo has planned for Link on the Switch, we’ll have to wait patiently for the next update.
