NBA news: Lakers coach makes LeBron James admission after narrow Cavs win

It comes after Lakers narrowly beat James’ former side Cleveland Cavaliers 109-105.

It was James’ first return to Ohio since leaving the Cavs in the summer, opting out of the final year of his contract to join the Lakers.

Lakers were coming under immense pressure in the closing stages of the game against the Cavs, having been behind for a large chunk of the game.

LeBron James returned to court and shored things up though, racking up 32 points during the encounter.

And Walton praised the four-time MVP for his ability to help the Lakers close the game out.

“I’m happy we won, I had a feeling it wasn’t going to be a pretty game,” Walton said.

“LeBron is one of the best closers the game has ever seen.

“Having him on the court, we knew we could put together some stops, that was going to be key.

“Offensively, we were going to find good shots or get out and run a little bit in transition.

“With him anchoring that attack, it’s obviously something any coach would love to have.

“It [his reception from Cavs fans] was mostly cheers, and it should be.

“He’s done so much here and has so much love for the city, on and off the basketball court.

“He’s pretty professional. You get that in day one of training camp – he’s locked in, all business.

“I loved his aggressiveness tonight, just seeing him get downhill, be physical and play-make was a real positive for us.”

James praised the crowd for the reception he got.

He told ESPN post-game in Cleveland: “My 11 years I played for this franchise I just tried to give everything I could both on the court and off the court to represent this city and this community with utmost respect.

“[I tried to] Be a role model off the floor, be a leader on the floor.

“To come back and get the reception I got tonight means a lot not only for myself but for my family and my friends that were here tonight and my family that are back home in LA as well.”
