The shooting occurred south of Coors Field, just after 4pm local time on Monday (11pm GMT). Police confirmed that five people were shot, with one person killed. The other individuals were rushed to Denver Health Medical Center. Police spokesman Doug Schepman said three people were taken to hospital in critical condition.

Mr Shepman added: “It’s too early at this time to say what happened here exactly, why it occurred.
“Our investigators are currently getting witness statements, seeking video and photo evidence that might help us to piece together exactly what happened here, and also to confirm suspect information.”

Officers closed several streets in the area, three blocks away from Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies baseball team.
The attack in Denver is the second mass shooting of the day in the US, after a gunman opened fire at a hospital in Chicago earlier on Monday.
Two people, including the suspected gunman, are reportedly dead after gunfire erupted at the hospital at around 9.30pm GMT (3pm local time).
Chicago fire officials said one police officer and two women were also shot.
The circumstances surrounding the attack remain clear, with some bystanders saying they witnessed a man shooting people at random.
