Will Rey get a new lightsaber? A recent image proved that the original Skywalker blue lightsaber was broken in the Last Jedi clash between Rey and Kylo Ren. Now a new leak describes an intense scene between Rey and Luke Skywalker, who is holding the other green lightsaber. It also describes Luke as not looking like a Force ghost and also clean shaven, which means it can not be flashback to their time spent together on Ahch-To, when the Jedi master had a beard all the time. What is going on?
As always, take any purported leaks with a huge pinch of salt.
It says: “Luke Skywalker in front of Rey on a jungle world. In the background are ancient stone steps that lead to some rooms which appear to be a Jedi Temple of some kind. Luke appears to be in his physical form as if he is not dead, but he may be a Force ghost and more solid this time. No blue hue is described in the sequence.
“Luke holds his iconic green lightsaber hilt in his hand but not ignited as Rey examines it. This could be one of Luke’s lessons to Rey, teaching her how to develop a lightsaber like his own.
“Luke’s face has no beard and shorter hair – shorter than his hair on Crait. He wears a brown robe with white sleeves.”
Fans already know that Hamill shaved his beard shortly before rerunning to film scenes for Episode 9 in the UK last month.
In The Last Jedi Luke promised Rey three lessons and only two were shown. The first lesson was when he taught her to sense the Force all around her in every thing, explaining that the Force was far too big to belong only to the Jedi.
Luke said; “To say if the Jedi die the light dies is vanity, don’t you see that?”
His second lesson was the belief that the Jedi had to end: “The legacy of The Jedi is failure, hypocrisy, hubris.” This is fuelled by the belief of Luke and others before him that the Jedi’s attempts to suppress human nature only ended in disaster.
So what about the third lesson?
Fans know there was a deleted scene, which was partially filmed, showing Rey rushing to rescue people under attack in a burning village on Ahch-To, before finding out it was actually a party. Luke had tricked her in order to teach her to think and act for herself and not follow an Order like the Jedi.
Will this be somehow world into the final film? It seems unlikely since Rey was angry with Luke’s tricks and the new leaked scene sounds more like a calm moment with the green lightsaber.
Abrams is known to betraying to incorporate as many iconic prequel and sequel elements into Episode 9 and the return of the green lightsaber would certainly thrill fans. Its location has not been confirmed although many believe it is among Luke’s belongings on Ahch-To.
As for Luke beardless and seeming alive, this will fuel desperate hopes that somehow Luke will be brought back to life, but it is more likely that he is some form of powerful ghost that is almost corporeal and has reverted to his classic clean-shaven appearance.
