Man Utd news: Paul Scholes reveals the real reason United beat Juventus

That is according to BT Sport pundit and 11-time Premier League winner with Manchester United Paul Scholes.

United came from a goal down to beat Juventus in the Champions League Group H clash in Turin.

Former Red Devil Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring midway through the second half with a stunning volley – his first European goal for the Old Lady.

However, two goals in the final five minutes from United turned the game on its head.

Substitute Juan Mata scored a sublime free kick before a Leonardo Bonucci own goal won United all three points.

Juventus beat Manchester United 1-0 in the reverse fixture two weeks ago at Old Trafford.

The Serie A champions were comfortable in that win, with Scholes highly critical of his former team.

So Scholes believes Juve expected an easier match on Wednesday and took their foot off the gas.

“I think if this is a quarter-final, semi-final then I don’t think United are getting in the game,” he said.

“I think Juventus would be more ruthless.

“You could argue they were a little bit complement after the first game.

“It was so easy for them, there was nobody near them.

“He (Massimiliano Allegri) left (Blaise) Matuidi out tonight as well, he left (Joao) Cancelo out.

“Is he thinking about other things? It’s not the most important game for them tonight.

“Juventus are still going to qualify.”

United will qualify for the knockout stages if they beat Young Boys later this month and Valencia fail to beat Juventus.
