Fortnite event COUNTDOWN: Start time, Butterfly leak, map rumours, predictions and stream

EVENT – UPDATE ONE: The build-up to the Fortnitemares Finale has started with strange goings-on occurring in Battle Royale.

Activity has started around the Fortnite cube which is cracked and looks to be on the verge of exploding any moment now.

The Fortnite cube has started dropping fragments of ‘Kevin’ into Leaky Lake, and these aren’t small pieces either.

Fortnite dataminer Silox has also found files that seems to suggest what will happen during the Fortnite ‘Butterfly’ event.

The in-game files appear to show the Fortnite cube will break off into three fragments after what’s expected to be an explosion.

It’s believed that the Fortnite cube will then spawn a butterfly and a brand new point of interest on the Battle Royale map, according to other leaked files.

ORIGINAL: Fortnite is about to host a major live in-game event in Battle Royale this weekend to mark the end of the Fortnitemares Halloween festivities.

Epic Games earlier this week revealed that Fortnitemares would finish with a major in-game event in Fortnite Battle Royale.

Fans have been teased by Fortnite PR Nick Chester that the live event on Sunday will be something they “do not want to miss”.

And it’s likely that the upcoming Fortnite event will have a major bearing on what happens in Fortnite season 7 which is fast approaching.

The past major in-game events Fortnite has held towards the tail end of one season has had a big impact on the following Battle Pass.

For instance, the rocket event in Fortnite season 4 resulted in the cracks in the sky that was key to Fortnite season 5’s ‘Worlds Collide’ theme.

And those cracks in the sky all lead to the Fortnite cube appearing which has played a pivotal role in the events of Fortnite season 6.

So whatever Epic Games has planned for the in-game Fortnite event it’s likely to kickstart the build-up to Fortnite season 7.

The Fortnite live event will be taking place on Sunday November 4. Epic Games announced the event when they revealed the Fortnitemares end date on Twitter.

The game’s official Twitter account posted: “Fortnitemares in Battle Royale ends on Sunday, November 4 at 1 PM ET (6 PM UTC).

“Finish your Fortnitemares Challenges by then to unlock the Dark Engine Glider.

“Log in early and be in-match to witness the one-time event occurring at 1 PM ET (6 PM UTC).”

For those in the UK, this means that the Fortnite live event will begin at 6pm GMT.

And according to a leak on the PlayStation Events page we may have an idea of what the Fortnite live event is called.

A listing on the PlayStation Events page said the upcoming Fortnite live event is called the Fortnitemares Finale and it will last for five minutes.

However, this could simply be a placeholder name – one for that matter which doesn’t reveal much about what will take place.

Fortnite Butterfly

Thankfully, those wondering what will happen during the Fortnite event have been treated to a major leak.

The Fortnite Battle Royale Leaks Twitter account uncovered in-game files which all seem to relate to the Fortnite event.

These files are for a series of sound effects and have all been labelled with ‘Butterfly’.

File names include mysterious titles such as Butterfly_BuildUp, Butterfly_Transition, Butterfly_Death_Sky and Butterfly_Sequence.

As revealed in a post by FortniteInsider, a mesh model of an actual butterfly has also been discovered within in-game files.

So, at the moment one presiding theory in the rumour mill is that the Fortnite cube could be destroyed during the event – with a butterfly spawning from it.

This theory has only been given more weight with cracks starting to show on the Fortnite cube, as if it’s about to break any moment now.

Previous leaks have also hinted that map changes are coming to the Fortnite Battle Royale map – specifically in the lake area.

What ends up appearing in the lake remains to be seen, but could we finally get that long-rumoured volcano in Fortnite?

While there are plenty of rumours and theories, judging by past events whatever Epic Games has planned will leave fans surprised.

The Cary-based developer has also issued an important notice ahead of the Fortnite Butterfly event taking place.

Fortnite

Fortnite fans will need to be in a match, and not in Playground mode, to watch the event (Image: EPIC GAMES)

They warned that fans hoping to watch the event from the comfort and safety of the Playground mode won’t be able to.

So, you’ll have to enter into a match to watch the Butterfly event – and leave enough time to get to a good vantage point.

If you’re unable to play Fortnite at the time of the event for some reason then there will be plenty of live streams of it on Twitch.
