Bournemouth 1-2 Man Utd
That’s us from us this afternoon. Thank you for joining our live coverage of Bournemouth vs Man United.
Man United up to 7th, level on points with Bournemouth but behind on goal difference.
Marcus Rashford’s late goal was enough to earn United three points, a good to a tough week ahead.
Jose Mourinho’s honest verdict on BT Sport: “It was not just the start it was all the first half. At half time I thought I was the luckiest manager in the Premier League. To be 1-1 in a half when it should be 5-2 or 6-2, we were lucky.
“Defensively awful. Absolutely awful. I don’t mean just defenders, we didn’t start pressing up the work we did during the week.
“People watching this game don’t understand how hard we work to put pressure on our opponent.
“Second half we show intensity, aggression and in the end we had this goal that gave us these important points.
“It’s impossible to play worse than we did so the second had to be good for sure. As a team the team performed much better, I think I was happy with bringing Ander to the game.
Bournemouth vs Man Utd live: Mourinho admits it wasn’t his side’s best performance
“Normally when you need a better result you make an attacking chance but I felt the team needed a player like Ander to give us more balance and recover the ball faster and protect Young. The team was much better and we created lots of chances.
“I was not in the warming up and saying this is the best warmup of the season, everyone focused, great intensity, the week was a good week of work so I can’t believe how badly we started.
“I love the song attack attack attack but you need to know when you lose the ball you have stability.
“We don’t have this and today it happened again against a good team. Tactically we were prepared, we were ready for 4-4-2, for 5 at the back, ready for everything… I really can’t understand the mentality that brings me more white hair.”
Bournemouth vs Man Utd live: Rashford scores the winner
Paul Scholes believes United’s slow start is becoming a problem. He told BT: “They come out with the wrong attitude. It’s a defensive attitude and they’re better attacking.
“I think as soon as they come out they never tackle, don’t get into players.”
Ander Herrera talking to BT Sport about starting slowly “We can’t give away that first 25 minutes. They were better in the first half, we were much better in the second. I want to be in a whole game team.”
Marcus Rashford has scored two 90th minute winning goals in Premier League games for Man Utd – no player has more for the club (level with Paul Scholes and Robin van Persie). Saviour. [OptaJoe]
