Xbox One news: SHOCK new Microsoft console rival gets November release date

The could be facing some serious competition, as a surprise new console rival gets a release date.

And the shock new competitor comes in the form of and its new iPad Pro model.

The 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models were unveiled by Apple during a recent event in New York. 

During the presentation, an Apple spokesperson said that the iPad Pro “delivers Xbox One S-class graphics performance in a product that’s 94% smaller”.

Better yet, you don’t need even need an AC adaptor to use the iPad Pro as a gaming device.

The Apple iPad Pro has a November 7 release date in the UK, which means the new Xbox One S competitor is out next week.

Microsoft appears to be embracing the competition, especially if it leads to improved cross-play experiences.

“I liked the reference to XB1S in the announce, Apple stepping up the iPad Pro for some great Xbox to iPad cross-play matches, nice,” Microsoft’s Phil Spencer tweets.

One thing Microsoft does have going for it is that the Xbox One S is considerably cheaper than the iPad Pro.

iPad Pro prices start at £769 for the 11-inch model, or £969 for the 12.9-inch device.

The Xbox One also benefits from a superior games library, which includes new releases like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Call of Duty Black Ops 4.

Xbox One also has Games with Gold, which is monthly free games offer for subscribers.

November’s Games with Gold releases were announced earlier this week, and include Battlefield 1 and Race the Sun.

Battlefield 1 is available from November 1 until November 30, while Race the Sun can be yours from November 16 until midnight on December 15.

Elsewhere, the original Assassin’s Creed is free to Xbox 360 owners from November 1 until November 15, followed by Dante’s Inferno until the end of the month.
