US pipe bomb ARREST: Suspect named as Trump-supporting bodybuilder – live updates

Authorities arrested the keen Donald Trump supporter in Florida on Friday after a wave of  explosive devices were sent to prominent Democrats and critics of Mr Trump including Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

The suspected MAGA bomber was taken into custody in a car park of an auto-parts shop in Plantation, north of Miami, after at least 12 suspected explosive devices were posted this week.

A van, reportedly plastered in right-wing stickers, was removed on a truck at the scene of Sayoc’s arrest, with the suspect, who is in his 50s, reported to have a long criminal record.

Sayoc, from Fort Lauderdale, was photographed being led away with his hands cuffed behind his back and flanked by law enforcement officers.

Sayoc was previously arrested and accused of threatening to use a bomb, the New York Times reports.

His criminal record allegedly dates back to 1991 and includes theft, drug and fraud charges.

Police closed roads around the AutoZone car park where Sayoc was arrested, as helicopters whirled overhead.

A woman who lives nearby said she was in her yard weeding on Friday morning when she heard a loud bang, saw smoke and heard a lot of shouting.

Sayoc was born in 1962, and more arrests could follow, a federal law enforcement official told Reuters.

Photographs have emerged of Sayoc at a 2016 rally for Mr Trump, with the alleged bomber’s Facebook page plastered with right-wing memes.

The keen bodybuilder, who is of Native American origin, posted photos of himself wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat.

Other memes he has posted attack Mrs Clinton, with one branding her a hypocrite.

There are also images insulting Muslims as “paedophiles and rapists”.

These terrorising acts are despicable and have no place in our country

Donald Trump

Donald Trump confirmed the arrest in a White House statement and said he had instructed law enforcement agencies to spare “no resource”.

Mr Trump said: “These terrorising acts are despicable and have no place in our country.

“I have instructed authorities to spare no resource or expense in finding those responsible and bringing them to swift justice.

“We will prosecute… to the fullest extent of the law.

“We must never allow political violence to take root in America. I have committed to doing everything in my power as president to stop it.”

He added: “Americans must unify, we must show the world we are united together in peace and love and harmony as American citizens.”

Photographs of the white van seen near the scene of Sayoc’s arrest in Plantation appear to images of Hillary Clinton, the filmmaker Michael Moore and other liberal figures.

Other photos of Mr Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, as well as a “Native Americans for Trump” slogan are blazed across the van.

Sayoc posted a photos of Florida Governor Rick Scott and Donald Trump on his Facebook page last year, writing: “The greatest Governor in Country Fla Rick Scott and great friend of We Unconquered Seminole Tribe . Trump Trump Trump”.

He is also believed to have worked in a strip club.

Locals reported hearing a loud “bomb” sound as Sayoc was arrested.

The manager of a used-car shop next to the AutoZone car park said: “I heard like a bomb.

“I opened the door and saw the FBI there.”

Two more suspicious packages were addressed to US Senator Cory Booker and ex-US director of national intelligence, James Clapper on Friday.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo said he feared there may be more explosive devices.

“I would not be surprised if there are additional packages, just because he is caught doesn’t mean he doesn’t have other packages in route,” Cuomo said.

“The good news is none of them have detonated.

They’re not fake bombs, that’s propaganda, but they’re not highly sophisticated devices either, so everyone should be on full alert.”

A thirteenth suspicious parcel was sent to Democratic US. Senator Kamala Harris of California on Friday CNN reported.

Investigators focused their search on Florida as a manhunt was launched.

It comes after suspect devices were sent to Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton and other prominent Democrats this week.
