A device arrived at Mr De Niro’s Tribeca Grill early on Thursday.
The restaurant building has been evacuated and a bomb squad vehicle has raced to the scene.
This comes the day after a similar package was sent to Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama, similar to the other packages, the one sent to Mr De Niro had six American flag stamps in two rows.
The package is the eighth explosive device sent to President Trump’s critics.

The packages, which are suspected to be pipe bombs, were intended to arrive at the homes of the top Democrats but were intercepted by the authorities.
The Former US vice president Joe Biden was sent a suspect package through the post late on Wednesday night.
The parcel was misaddressed and returned to the sender, but is not being considered as suspicious.
Mr De Niro has been outspoken against Trump and has even called him a “national disaster”.

According to the New York Police Department, the restaurant was empty when the device arrived.
Mrs Clinton thanked the Secret Service for intercepting the device and said she and her family “are fine”.
White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders condemned the “attempted violent attacks” against the public figures.
Two days before the suspected explosive devices were sent to Obama and Clinton, a pipe bomb was found at the home of the financier George Soros.

President Donald Trump said that these threats “have no place in America”.
He said: “The safety of the American people is my highest and absolute priority.
“In these times we just have to unify. We need to come together and send one very clear unmistakable message that threats or acts of political violence of any kind have no place in America.”
It is not known if the package was addressed to the famous actor himself.

The explosive devices addressed to the Trump critics were made from PVC pipe and contained a timer to set off the detonator.
After an explosive was discovered at CNN, New York Mayor, Bill de Blasio, said: “This is clearly an act of terror, attempting to undermine our free press, leaders of this country through acts of violence.
“I want to make it clear that the people of New York City will not be intimidated. That we’re going to go about our lives undeterred.”
None of the suspect devices have gone off and the FBI are investigating who sent them.

The Hollywood actor released a video during the 2016 election campaign calling Mr Trump “an idiot” and claiming he would move to Italy if he were elected.
Mr De Niro received a standing ovation at the Tony awards in New York in June for a speech attacking the president.

An hour after the news of the device at Mr De Niro’s restaurant broke, Mr Trump tweeted: “A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News.
“It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!”
