The $1.6 billion (£1.2 billion) jackpot is a record-breaking amount, the most in history.
The numbers were drawn on Tuesday night and were: 5, 28, 62, 65, 70 with the Mega Ball being 5.
The South Carolina Education Lottery revealed on their website that someone in the state had bought the winning ticket.
There are still 40 other states which are yet to reveal their results, as well as Washington DC and the US Virgin Islands.
Results show that in California, eight of all tickets sold matched five out of the six numbers.

There have been no winners of the jackpot since July 24, when 11 colleagues divided a staggering $543 million between them.
This has meant that the jackpot has climbed rapidly to the $1.6billion.
Officials say that at least one winning ticket with every one of the six numbers was sold.
This means that one lucky person is now a billionaire in the South Carolina area.
These eight tickets were bought in Norwalk and San Francisco, San Diego, Chatsworth, Arcadia, Rancho Cucamonga, San Diego, Stockton and San Luis Obispo.
However the prize money from those tickets is yet to be announced.
Mega Millions draws take place at 10pm every Tuesday and Friday.
The billion dollar prize winner is yet to be identified.
Mega Millions host John Crow said of the more than one billion dollar winner: “A million dollars in life changing. But a billion dollars is extraordinary.
“So that excitement, that enthusiasm that is generating right now is what’s great about this jackpot.”
For those who missed out on the Mega Millions, on Wednesday the Powerball will be drawn.
This has a lower but by no means insignificant prize fund of an estimated $620million (£478million).
Similar to the Mega Millions, the Powerball has seen a significant period of time without a winner, increasing the jackpot.
The last time someone won the Powerball was August 11 this year.
