Liverpool team news: Mane injury boost as ace trains with cast but midfielder missing

Liverpool have been boosted by the return of Sadio Mane to training ahead of their Champions League clash with Red Star Belgrade.

The Senegalese winger broke his thumb during the international break and required surgery, forcing the 26-year-old to miss the 1-0 win over Huddersfield last weekend.

However, Mane was pictured training with a cast on alongside the rest of his Liverpool team-mates at Melwood on Tuesday evening.

Manager with the Reds looking to bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Napoli in their previous Champions League fixture.

Liverpool are currently second in Group C, having beaten Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 at Anfield in their opening game.

While Mane is expected to be available against Red Star, after the midfielder picked up a hamstring injury against Huddersfield.

The 28-year-old was substituted at half-time during the Premier League clash and was nowhere to be seen as the Reds geared up for their Champions League tie.

Klopp has revealed Henderson is also likely to miss the visit of Cardiff this weekend.

“It’s not too good, to be honest. It’s nothing we have to worry too much about, but it’s a hamstring issue so we will have to see,” said the Liverpool boss yesterday.

“He will not be available for tomorrow for sure, and probably not Cardiff, but hopefully then he can be back. We will see.”

Naby Keita is also struggling with a hamstring problem, with Klopp confirming the Guinea international will not face Red Star.

This hands summer signing Fabinho an opportunity to make his debut start alongside James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum in midfield.

However, Xherdan Shaqiri was preferred against Huddersfield while Adam Lallana is another option, although the England international suffered from cramp at the weekend.

Mohamed Salah was an injury doubt last week but scored the winner against Huddersfield while Roberto Firmino was rested but should replace Daniel Sturridge.

Meanwhile, Klopp has a decision to make a right-back with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez both competing for the position after Dejan Lovren’s return in central defence.
