‘He’s BEAUTIFUL Ted!’ – Donald Trump HUGS former RIVAL Ted Cruz at Texas rally

The US President embraced the Senator as he took to the stage at the Toyata Centre and called his former rival “a man who has become a really good friend”.

During his speech, he also made a reference to their bitter feud and jokingly said: “In the beginning, it was a love fest.”

Ted Cruz, who spoke prior to Trump, praised the President as a “man who has presided over record jobs, record unemployment”.

He also claimed that “in 2020 Donald Trump will be overwhelmingly re-elected as President of the United States”.

The President and Senator’s warm remarks are in stark contrast to their lengthy attacks during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Trump called Mr Cruz a “liar”, implying that his father was involved in the assassination of President John F Kennedy.

In May 2016, the President told Fox news: “Cruz’s father was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald’s being — you know, shot.

“I mean, the whole thing is ridiculous.

“What is this, right prior to his being shot, and nobody even brings it up.”

He also ridiculed the Senator’s wife for her looks.

For his part, Mr Cruz branded Trump a “pathological liar” and a “snivelling coward” who sends “nasty tweets”.

He also refused to endorse the American firebrand at the Republican nominating convention.

But the bitter war seems to have come to an end, and before heading to Houston, President Trump told reporters he came up with a new nickname for Mr Cruz.

He said: “He’s not lyin’ Ted anymore.

“He’s beautiful Ted.”

However, he also added that he does not “regret” suggesting the Senator’s father was involved in the assassination of President Kennedy.

He told CNN: “I don’t regret anything, honestly.

“It all worked out nicely.”
