LeBron James: Magic Johnson reveals which Lakers star will be James’ sidekick

James, 33, quit his home-town team Cleveland Cavaliers for the bright lights of LA this summer.

The three-time NBA champion has decided to test himself in the Western Conference for the first time in his illustrious career.

James will line up alongside the Lakers’ impressive young core, with Ingram, Lonzo Ball and Kyle Kuzma expected to shine this season.

The Lakers were tipped to sign another All-Star in the summer, with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George linked with moves to LA.

However, deals didn’t materialise, with the San Antonio Spurs trading Leonard to the Toronto Raptors, and George snubbing the Lakers to commit his long-term future to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

And Johnson says Ingram will be James’ co-star this season, claiming the 21-year-old is capable of averaging 20 points per game.

“It’s got to be Brandon Ingram because every year he’s taken a step forward,” Johnson said on ESPN’s First Take.

“He’s gotten better and better and he has the game to score 20 points a night.

“We’ve seen signs of that so if Brandon takes the step that we all feel he can take then I think that will make us a dangerous team.”

James will make his first NBA appearance for the Lakers tonight against the Portland Trail Blazers.

And the small forward has warned his Lakers team-mates about Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum ahead of their opener.

“I think it starts with their fans. Their fans are diehard, loyal,” James said.

“It starts with their team what they have put together over the last 17 years.

“They start very well at home.

“They are two of the toughest one-two punches that we have in our league, as far as point guard and shooting guard.

“They’re just as tough as anybody.

“I have had the triple-double [in Portland] and I have had some good success up there in my career. It has always been fun and a good reception.”
