PS4 update 6.02 download: New PlayStation firmware LIVE – Here’s what it does

UPDATE: PS4 users are experiencing various issues after downloading the latest system update.

Fans have taken to Reddit to reveal the problems they’ve encountered since downloading the patch.

Some have complained about the console crashing, others are having problems with the audio, while some are experiencing visual flickering.

Sony is yet to respond to the issues on Twitter.

The new PlayStation 4 firmware update can be downloaded the next time you turn on your console.

Update 6.02 patch notes have been revealed by Sony, although there’s not much to go on.

The update is said to “improve system performance”, so looks like PSN name changes will have to wait.

Despite minimal patch notes, the update does, however, make one crucial fix for PlayStation 4 owners.

Fans were recently warned against opening a message that could temporarily damage consoles.

A particular string of characters is hidden within the message that can cause the PlayStation system to be spun into a crash loop.

Sony has since fixed the problem, so it’s worth downloading the update if you’re worried about having to reset your console.

If you’re unsure about your console’s safety, you can also try starting your PS4 in Safe Mode.

As for PSN name changes, Sony will make the feature available to Preview members soon.

The PlayStation Network Online ID Preview Program has been scheduled to start this year, before being expanded to other users in 2019.

Fans will be able to change PSN names for free, but only the one time.

Further changes will cost €9.99/£7.99, or €4.99/£3.99 for PS Plus subscribers.

Sony will also allow older PSN IDs to be displayed alongside the new name.

This should hopefully eliminate any confusion among members of your friend list.
